NLP-FORGE: Developing Young NLP Talents in Slovakia

The NLP-FORGE project focuses on developing young talents in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in Slovakia. It aims to improve educational and networking opportunities for talents and build a viable ecosystem where they can form effective collaborations, learn from experts, and work on projects with significant business and social impact.

This initiative comes at a point where Natural Language Processing (NLP) has become a significant driving force behind advancements in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The ability to integrate AI technologies is quickly becoming a key factor in competitiveness across various sectors. Developing local NLP talent is therefore crucial for the business sector, but also more broadly, to ensure that Slovak citizens benefit from these technologies in education, healthcare, and access to information, while preventing the widening of the digital divide.

Three Pillars of the Project

Summer and winter schools, internships, mentoring of young talents, and preparation of NLP educational materials. Hands-on training with cutting-edge technologies and real-world applications.

Meetings of Slovak NLP experts, building a network of professionals, and strengthening the ecosystem for research and development in NLP in Slovakia.

Popularisation activities to raise awareness and attract new talent to the field. Sharing resources for the Slovak language and creating a repository for Slovak NLP on HuggingFace.

Expected Outcomes

The project will directly benefit approximately

  • 32 young talents – participants of the 1-day NLP Summer School 2024;
  • 32 young talents – participants of the 1-day NLP Winter School 2025;
  • 32 young talents – participants of the 3-day NLP Summer School 2025;
  • 6 interns in the field of NLP who will be trained/mentored.

It will indirectly benefit approximately:

  • 50+ participants of popularisation events;
  • 100+ visitors to the project website.

The project will also contribute to the creation of a Repository for Slovak NLP on the HuggingFace platform, where a network of experts will help make existing and new resources for the Slovak language (data, models, etc.) more visible.
