Purpose
The Technology Team aims to drive innovation by bridging the gap between research and real-world applications, transforming promising ideas into impactful tools and services for KInIT and the external world. We strengthen KInIT’s technological foundations through reliable and efficient infrastructure, advanced engineering expertise, enhanced cybersecurity, and the responsible adoption of Generative AI.
Innovation is at the heart of our mission. Working closely with KInIT’s research teams and our newly created Innovations and Partnerships team, we aim to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications, transforming promising research outcomes into robust, scalable, and reusable tools and services. Beyond the institute, our goal is to bring our engineering expertise to industry collaborations and joint research and innovation projects, developing practical solutions to real-world challenges. Through these activities, we accelerate the adoption of AI innovations, amplify the impact of KInIT’s research, and contribute to its long-term sustainability.
The Tech Team also strengthens KInIT’s technological capabilities by providing reliable, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure and engineering services across the institute. We manage and continuously improve our computing infrastructure, software platforms, and technical services, enabling researchers and other colleagues to focus on their work while making the most of available technologies and resources. We also strengthen KInIT’s cybersecurity posture, addressing the evolving challenges of increasingly powerful AI and agentic systems, while driving the responsible, secure, and effective adoption of Generative AI across the institute.
The Tech team, in collaboration with an external partner, operates KInIT’s high-performance computing infrastructure designed to support advanced AI research, experimentation, and the development and deployment of innovative solutions. Our OpenStack-based infrastructure provides flexible virtual machines, on-demand Kubernetes clusters, GPU-accelerated computing, and high-performance storage, with secure access for both internal and external users.
