Marek Havrila

Marek focuses on multi-objective recommender systems and their role in trustworthy environments. His research interests include fair and unambiguous evaluation methods, as well as careful and correct interpretation of measured data – areas that he believes are often underestimated in current machine learning research.

Marek earned his PhD in Biomolecular Chemistry from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in 2016 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biophysics, Czech Academy of Sciences. His primary research area was the structure and dynamics of RNA, using methods such as computer modelling of molecular structures and structural bioinformatics. He published several scientific papers in journals such as JCTC, JPCB or NAR and attended notable conferences, including the RNA Society Meeting. 

After a career switch to software engineering in Red Hat, where he worked on the testing of smart card authentication, he was drawn back to research, which ultimately brought him to KInIT.
