Marek graduated in Biophysics from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University, where he focused on computer modelling of molecular structures and structural bioinformatics. During his postgraduate studies focused on the structure and dynamics of RNA, he published several scientific papers and attended notable conferences, such as the RNA Society Meeting. Marek earned his PhD in Biomolecular Chemistry from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in 2016 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biophysics, Czech Academy of Sciences. Later, he joined Red Hat as a Software Quality Engineer in a team responsible for cryptographic components, leading the testing of smart card authentication. While he appreciated the work environment that respected and contributed to open source, he was drawn back to research, which ultimately brought him to KInIT.
