KInIT in Quark magazine: Linguistic inequalities

We continue our partnership with the Quark magazine and bring you a new article from our series focused on intelligent technologies. Quark is a Slovak popular-science magazine dedicated to science and technology, where KInIT regularly contributes every month in print and online.

In the February issue, we contributed the article Linguistic inequalities, which examines why large language models perform unevenly across different languages. The article explains why AI technologies perform better and more cheaply in English than in Slovak, highlighting structural inequalities in language technologies and suggesting ways to address them.

The article was written by our technology lead Martin Tamajka together with our research engineer Timotej Králik, and offers an accessible yet critical look at how language, data, and power intersect in today’s AI landscape.
