V4Grid: The Visegrad group for Vehicle to X

In Central Europe, the V4Grid project is pioneering a new era in sustainable energy solutions by harnessing the power of electric vehicles (EVs) through Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) services powered by AI methods. Collaborating across Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, the project aims to transform EVs into dynamic components of the region’s energy infrastructure.

V2X technology has the potential to unlock synergies between the growing green energy system, driven by renewable energy sources, and the rapidly evolving transportation sector characterized by the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). V2X services enable EVs not only to draw energy but also to store and distribute it back to the grid, offering a multitude of benefits. Among these advantages is the bolstering of electricity grid stability, reducing the risk of blackouts and providing a reliable power source during natural disasters or emergencies.

The aim of V4Grid is to pilot V2X services in the Central Europe region. On its way, it must prepare the infrastructure, design algorithms and business models, and overcome barriers of various types. It will leverage innovative approaches, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) methods. Project collaborates closely with national and regional public authorities to develop legislation and regulations conducive to V2X technology adoption.

The V4Grid brings together organizations with different expertise thus creating the unique consortium capable of creating a comprehensive V2X solution. The essential expertise in power engineering and e-mobility is contributed by energy utility companies and progressive private organizations. Higher education and research institutions play a vital role, offering valuable insights and research opportunities to advance the project’s objectives.

KInIT, a key partner in the project, provides its expertise in prediction methods, anomaly detection, and optimization leveraging AI and ML techniques. In this project, KInIT will design methods and algorithms for smart energy solutions, enabling autonomous decision-making for optimal usage of electric vehicle batteries based on reliable predictions. This intelligent approach is crucial for the success of the V2X concept, ensuring alignment with emerging trends in the field.

V4Grid project represents a pioneering initiative in Central Europe, revolutionizing energy solutions and accelerating the transition to a sustainable energy future. By leveraging the potential of EVs and V2X services, the project aims to create a more resilient and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure for the region.
