Processing Group
Infoproc @ KInIT

The Information processing group (Infoproc) dedicates itself to the research of intelligent information processing and knowledge acquisition from user behavior data and/or user generated content.

Infoproc’s primary means of research are quantitative methods such as statistics, machine learning (particularly deep learning), recommenders and user modelling complemented by qualitative approaches based mostly on user studies.

The domains of application include online misinformation and malicious behavior detection or software onboarding.

Research team

Jakub Šimko
(Group leader)

Associate professor focusing on the intersection of fields of human computation, eye-tracking and user modeling. His expertise also includes user studies, games and gamification. Recently, he has been working in the domain of misinformation modeling. He participated in research cooperation with Bar-Ilan and British Columbia Universities.

Mária Bieliková

Full professor focusing on artificial intelligence, particularly in human computer interaction modelling, machine learning, user modeling. Slovak IT Personality of the Year 2016. She was a member of the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Center, High Level Expert Group on AI established by the European Commission. She is a co-founder of slovak.AI.

Pavol Návrat

Full professor focusing on artificial intelligence and its cross sections with knowledge based software engineering, web search or biologically inspired computing. He was active steering committee member in several international conferences. In recent years, he initiated research on antisocial behaviour in online environment.

Michal Kompan

Associate professor focusing on recommender systems, machine learning, user modeling, and information retrieval. His research is focused on predictive modelling of customer behavior (e.g., churn prediction). Multiple of his results are highly cited and he is active in the international recommender system community.

Ivan Srba

Assistant professor focusing on artificial intelligence, data science and web-based systems, which utilize concepts of collaboration and collective intelligence (such as social media, knowledge sharing systems or e-learning). He participated in international research cooperation with Harvard University, University of Lugano, University of Luxembourg, and others.

Róbert Móro

Assistant professor focusing on human-computer interaction, user modeling, and machine learning. He participated in several international research cooperations (University of Lugano, University of British Columbia, and Bar-Ilan University).

Matúš Tomlein

Doctoral researcher focusing on user activity recognition, data analysis and machine learning. His interests lie in the areas of retail customer behavior analytics with the use of sensor data. He is also involved in misinformation and online malicious behavior detection research. In the past, he proposed and developed tools and tactics that support a seamless integration of external software applications in industrial products after their delivery to customers.

Andrea Hrčková

Assistant professor focusing on search engine optimization, digital cultural heritage, and impacts of information technologies at humans and society.

Elena Štefancová

Researcher focusing on artificial intelligence and recommender systems. She has been engaged in research on antisocial behaviour in an online environment.

Branislav Pecher

Researcher focusing on machine learning and neural networks. His research is oriented on misinformation detection, learning with only a limited amount of annotated samples, in particular meta-learning. He is also interested in decision explaining in machine learning models.
