AI Awards bring inspiring AI solutions
In recent years, artificial intelligence has become an inseparable part of everyday life. However, alongside its benefits, dangerous phenomena such as discrimination, unfair decisions, and the creation of filter bubbles have also emerged. These issues result from the irresponsible deployment of AI systems. Eliminating these negative impacts and ensuring fairness for all is a key task for AI teams and the organizations they operate in.
The goal of AI Awards: Trustworthy AI is to recognize responsible domestic providers of AI innovations who ensure their technologies bring positive benefits while minimizing negative consequences. Through AI Awards, we aim to highlight AI system creators who approach artificial intelligence deployment responsibly and ethically.
By promoting successful examples of trustworthy artificial intelligence, we encourage other innovators to deploy their systems responsibly. Trustworthy AI is not just an academic concept; it has practical significance in eliminating the threats and risks associated with modern technologies.
AI Awards is carried out as part of the Hopero project in collaboration with the Standing Commission for Ethics and AI Regulation at the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development, and Informatization (CERAI).
New Edition In Progress
We have launched the second edition of the AI Awards, once again focusing on trustworthy artificial intelligence. Any organizations or AI teams operating in Slovakia that seek to integrate AI with ethics could participate.
The participation conditions are simple, but we emphasize that applicants must demonstrate their commitment to building responsible, trustworthy, and human-centred AI systems. The evaluation considers multiple principles derived from international standards and guidelines, primarily the Ethical Guidelines for Trustworthy AI.
Trustworthy AI is, in our view, defined as systems that guarantee safety, compliance with legal norms, alignment with the values of an open democratic society, and adherence to ethical principles. Developers of these systems should follow seven key requirements that deserve special attention in AI development:
- Human oversight and governance
- Technical robustness and security
- Privacy and data governance
- Transparency
- Diversity, non-discrimination, and fairness
- Social and environmental well-being
- Accountability
What Did the First Edition Achieve?
The first edition of our nationwide AI Awards showcased many inspiring local solutions. It became evident that companies are increasingly interested in trustworthy AI, with many exceeding the minimum regulatory requirements. Based on the first and second rounds of evaluations, we selected a strong group of five finalists:
- AI:Dental – an AI assistant for dentists, professors, and students to interpret X-ray images in dentistry.
- Gerulata Technologies – a tool to combat misinformation.
- Innovatrics – their Digital Onboarding Toolkit enables the development of remote identity verification applications.
- Powerful Medical – an AI technology for diagnosing and managing cardiovascular diseases.
- TrollWall – a tool for identifying and managing toxic and vulgar comments on social media.
The winners of the AI Awards 2024 were AI:Dental, who developed an innovative system to improve dental care using AI to automate the diagnosis of dental X-rays.
The AI Awards winners were announced at Forbes Business Fest on May 30, 2024.
The AI Awards are organized by Hopero, the European Digital Innovation Hub in Slovakia, and the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies (KInIT).
Media partners of AI Awards 2025 are Forbes Slovakia and Živé.sk.
