{"id":5603,"date":"2021-02-16T18:48:17","date_gmt":"2021-02-16T17:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinit.sk\/member\/ivan-srba\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T14:40:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:40:20","slug":"ivan-srba","status":"publish","type":"member","link":"https:\/\/kinit.sk\/sk\/clen\/ivan-srba\/","title":{"rendered":"Ivan Srba"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-paragraph\">\n<p>Ivan has expertise in <strong>artificial intelligence<\/strong>, <strong>natural language processing<\/strong>, and <strong>machine learning<\/strong> with a focus on <strong>algorithmic auditing<\/strong>, <strong>low resource AI<\/strong>, <strong>multilinguality<\/strong> and <strong>social computing systems<\/strong>, especially social networks. His current primary research interest is in auditing social media algorithms, supporting media professionals in producing credible content and countering online disinformation. He is currently a researcher and <strong>a principal investigator of the AI-Auditology<\/strong> &#8211; a &#8222;big research project&#8220; supported by the Slovak Research Agency. Besides that he has been an executive board member in <strong>three EU-funded projects<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/cedmohub.eu\/\">CEDMO<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/veraai.eu\/\">vera.ai<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/aicode-project.eu\/\">AI-CODE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-paragraph\">\n<p>He has co-authored more than <strong>60<\/strong> <strong>publications <\/strong>accepted to various international fora, including: <strong>9 current-content high-impact journal manuscripts<\/strong>, <strong>20 full conference papers <\/strong>(accepted to premiere conferences, such as EMNLP, ACL, SIGIR, CHI, RecSys) and <strong>3 book chapters<\/strong>. These publications have received more than <strong>1800 citations <\/strong>in total, resulting in <strong>h-index 26<\/strong> (according to Google Scholar, as of 2026\/04). He has been involved in <strong>13 research projects<\/strong>, HE RIA <a href=\"http:\/\/veraai.eu\/\">vera.ai<\/a>, HE IA <a href=\"https:\/\/aicode-project.eu\/\">AI-CODE<\/a>, HE IA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vigilantproject.eu\/\">VIGILANT<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/cedmohub.eu\/\">CEDMO<\/a> to name few. His international research record includes projects with the Harvard University (USA), The University of Sheffield (UK), The Centre for Research &amp; Technology, Hellas &#8211; CERTH (Greece), or the University of Lugano (Switzerland). He is a member of ACM educational and scientific computing society, ACL community and a former member of the Datalys@PeWe research group. He regularly serves as a reviewer for international conferences and journals published by ACM, IEEE, Springer and Elsevier. So far, he has supervised 23 bachelor and 19 master successfully-defended theses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-paragraph\">\n<p>He has participated as a <strong>data scientist <\/strong>and <strong>project lead <\/strong>in many research and industry projects. He was responsible for development of the first university-wide educational CQA system named Askalot, which has been deployed at three universities in three European countries and at MOOC system edX and which was used by 8000 students from 147 countries around the world. His other projects include a recommender system for a large internet shop (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zlavadna.sk\/\">ZlavaDna.sk<\/a>), a smart parking system and a multibank application developed in co-operation with a renowned European IT company (<a href=\"https:\/\/unicorn.com\/en\/\">Unicorn<\/a>) and a Slovak commercial bank (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vub.sk\/en\/\">VUB<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list-item\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"selected-achievements\">Selected achievements<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list-item\">\n<li>A principal investigator of a &#8222;big research project&#8220; AI-Auditology funded by the European Union NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia.<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list-item\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esetscienceaward.sk\/en\/finalists\/ivan-srba\">Finalist of the ESET Science Award 2023<\/a> in the category of outstanding scientist in Slovakia under the age of 35.<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"\" class=\"element core-list-item\">\n<li>The winning solution at <a href=\"https:\/\/propaganda.math.unipd.it\/semeval2023task3\/SemEval2023testleaderboard.html\">SemEval 2023 Task 3 subtask 3<\/a> data challenge on detection of persuasion techniques. The research team, which I supervised with a big honor, has won the first place for 6 out of 9 languages.
